My Story

Welcome to Ouray Image, where you can explore images that capture the beauty and lifestyle of the Ouray region, including Telluride, Ridgway, and Silverton. I live in Ridgway and visit the region's mountain communities and backcountry with my camera gear all seasons of the year.

Photography, outdoor adventure and education are my passions.  My career has been as a university administrator at campuses in Montana, Colorado, California, and Pennsylvania, where I completed a doctorate in higher education administration. For over 20 years, I was a whitewater kayaker and raft guide, which included river adventures in 20 states and one of the early descents down the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Running treacherous rivers requires the best equipment and perfect execution. I apply the same approach to photography.  To create images with rich detail and color, I use state-of-the-art camera gear, computers, and printers.  Many of the images on this website can be printed over six feet wide without sacrificing detail.  To ensure you receive a quality print, I print all of my prints and canvas wraps myself on the latest large-format printer. They are printed on archival materials and should last decades with proper care.

Information about purchasing images either on canvas, metal and print paper is on this website.  I enjoy assisting clients with their projects and I'm available for in-person meetings at your location.  If you live in the counties of Ouray, San Miguel, San Juan, Montrose and would like to see my images in person and discuss the image you have in mind and where you are considering hanging it, please contact me.

Many thanks,

Gary Ratcliff
